St. John Fisher University Athletics

Taylor Hughes (Watertown/Watertown) of the St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team has been named Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 2, 2014.

Hughes picked up right where she left off last season, scoring three goals in Fisher's season-opening 9-7 win against the visiting William Smith Herons on Saturday.

Hughes notched two goals early on in the first half before scoring her third in a big way.  With Fisher leading by a single goal, the Watertown native gained possession at midfield at sprinted past several Heron denfenders and netted an insurance goal for the Cardinals en route to a 9-7 win.

Hughes and the rest of the St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team returns to action at 2 p.m. on Tuesday when it plays Roanoke College in Puerto Rico.
