St. John Fisher College’s Mary Kate Cusack (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) of the women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 16, 2014.
Cusack posted career numbers in an effort to help the Cardinals to a 2-0 week and remain alive in the race for a postseason bid to the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
On Friday, Cusack tallied a career-high 31 points and added another career-best eight steals, along with four rebounds, to lead Fisher to a 66-57 defeat of East Avenue rival Nazareth College in the “Battle of the Beaks” game to raise money for the Golisano Children’s Hospital.
The sophomore guard added another 19 points, including a game-high three field goals from beyond the arc, to help the Cardinals close out the regular season with a 71-59 win at Alfred on Saturday. She also recorded five rebounds and three assists in the victory.
Fisher will now await its postseason fate, as several conference opponents will finish their seasons in the coming days.
