St. John Fisher College’s Melissa Leonhard (Penfield/Penfield) of the women’s lacrosse team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 14, 2013.
Playing in the final home game of her career, Leonhard led the Cardinals to a 12-8 win over East-Avenue rival Nazareth College on Saturday.
Leonhard paced Fisher with five goals, including two in a nine-second span late in the first half, snapping a 4-4 tie and giving her team the lead for good. She also tallied four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
For the season, Leonhard, Fisher’s all-time leader in draw controls leads the Empire 8 with 66. She also leads the Empire 8 with 41 ground balls and ranks in the top three in the conference in goals (41) and caused turnovers (21).
Fisher (9-3 overall, 3-1 Empire 8) returns to action at 1 p.m. on Friday at Stevens Institute of Technology.
