St. John Fisher College’s Jeff Wester (Livonia/Livonia), a junior on the men’s lacrosse team (6-1), has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2013.

In a 3-0 week for the Cardinals, Wester led the team in either goals, assists or both in each of those contests. For the week, the junior tallied 10 goals, five assists, five ground balls and a caused turnover.

Fisher led off the week with a 9-7 victory over The College at Brockport. Wester led the team with four goals while grabbing three ground balls and forcing a turnover.

On Friday, the Cardinals played the first of their two games in the Flower City Cup, which supported Coaches vs. Cancer. The Cup featured six men’s college teams, six women’s college teams and nine boy’s high school teams playing games on the campuses of St. John Fisher, RIT and Nazareth.

Fisher’s first opponent was Endicott College, which the Cardinals disposed of with a 13-10 win. This was Wester’s signature game for the week, having a seven point day on four goals and three assists. Those two marks were a game-high in each category.

The Cardinals wrapped up the week with a 9-4 win over Roger Williams University on Sunday in the closing game of Coaches vs. Cancer Flower City Cup. Although the Livonia native did not lead the team in scoring on this occasion, he did set the game high for assists, distributing two passes for scores while tallying two goals of his own.

Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels across town for the marquee matchup of this season thus far with former Empire 8 member Rochester Institute of Technology. RIT currently boasts a 4-1 record and a No. 5 ranking, as its only loss came to the current No. 2 team in the nation, Stevenson. The Tigers are also coming off two wins in the Flower City Cup, including a victory against Top 20 Western New England University.

Fisher and RIT faced off last season, with RIT carrying the same No. 5 ranking into Growney Stadium. The Cardinals played even with the Tigers for three quarters until RIT rallied to take the 15-10 contest.
