St. John Fisher University Athletics

St. John Fisher College’s Gahrett Varin (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville) of the men’s soccer team has been named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 9, 2012. 

The Cardinals had just one match this past week, facing The College at Brockport on the road.  Fisher held an early 1-0 lead in the game after Sean Fishel (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) scored on a penalty kick, but the Golden Eagles responded to tie things up and send the game to overtime.

In that extra period Varin setup teammate Joel Castellini, who knocked the ball home for the game-winning goal. 

Varin leads Fisher (2-1) in assists while also posting six shots on the year.  The senior led the Cardinals with six points last season, after scoring two goals and adding two assists.

The Cardinals will next face Hobart College at 7 p.m. on Monday in their 2012 home opener.
