St. John Fisher College’s Jamie Harmon (South Portland/South Portland, ME) of the softball team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 8, 2011. The senior athlete has also been named as the Empire 8 Player of the Week.
The Cardinals earned the Empire 8 title for the third time in four years, going 3-1 in Championship play at Ithaca over the weekend, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA’s this week.
Harmon was named as the Championship's Most Outstanding Player. The catcher drove in the game-winning run and made a spectacular catch in foul territory to end an RIT rally in Sunday's finale, in which the Cardinals defeated the Tigers 2-1.
Harmon batted .417 for the four-game tourney with two runs scored and two RBI.
For the season, the senior is batting .361 (39-for-108) with seven doubles, three home runs, and 28 RBI.
The Cardinals return to action in round one of the NCAA’s at the Ithaca Regional. Fisher faces Western Connecticut State at 12 p.m. on Thursday to kick off play.
