St. John Fisher College has named Jason Norsen (Frontier/Hamburg) of the men’s basketball team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 20, 2011.
In the Cardinals’ only game of the week, Norsen scored a career-high 27 points and added the team-best eight rebounds in Fisher’s 83-72 win at Nazareth College.
Norsen also added five blocks, while shooting 76.9% (10-for-33) from the floor and 77.7% (7-for-9) from the foul line in Tuesday’s victory. With the win, Fisher finishes the regular season with a 14-11 overall record, marking the 24th consecutive non-long season. The win also secured the Cardinals a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
This marks the second consecutive week the sophomore center has set a new career high for points in a game. In last week’s 71-62 win over Utica College, Norsen scored then-a-career-high 21 points, while adding nine rebounds.
For the season, Norsen leads the team in rebounds (6.2 rpg) and blocks (1.7 bpg) and ranks second in the team for scoring (11.1 ppg).
The Cardinals return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday at top-seeded Ithaca College in their first playoff game. This marks Fisher’s 20th consecutive post-season appearance.
