St. John Fisher College has named #Vicki Sahm# of the women’s lacrosse team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 2, 2010.

In a 1-0 week for the Cardinals, Sahm made a crucial overtime save to capture the win against St. Lawrence. With Fisher holding on to a one-goal lead, St. Lawrence was awarded a free position shot in the closing seconds. Sahm stopped the shot as the final horn sounded, securing the win for the Cardinals in their season finale. It was a fitting ending to a great career, which saw the senior play every minute between the posts in each of the last three seasons. In the win on Saturday, Sahm managed 14 stops in goal.

For her career, Sahm logged over 3,000 minutes in net for the Cardinals and started in every game from her sophomore year on. Sahm recorded two 11-win seasons in her sophomore and junior campaigns. The Baldwinsville native had a save percentage of over 48% all four years of her career, with her best effort coming in 2008 with a solid 55%. Sahm owns the top three spots of Fisher’s single-season records for goalie saves, holding the top spot with 245 in 2009, the second spot with 207 in 2008 and the third spot with 197 this season. She is also tied for tenth in the College’s single-season record for ground balls with 57 in 2008.

The Cardinals finished their season with a 5-11 overall record, finishing 3-5 in the Empire 8 Conference.
