    St. John Fisher College has named Michael Wopperer (St. Joseph’s/East Amherst) of the men’s basketball team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 25, 2010.
    On Tuesday, Wopperer scored 17 points and recorded seven rebounds in a Cardinals 75-47 victory over Elmira. Wopperer also shot 5-5 from the free throw line. 
    Wopperer netted six points over Ithaca College, and also had seven rebounds. Fisher went on to win 76-66 over the Bombers. 
    In the final contest of the three game stretch, Wopperer had 15 points and eight rebounds. The Cardinals defeated Hartwick 73-59.
    Wopperer, the senior center, is averaging 11.5 points per game this season. He leads the team with 118 rebounds, averaging 6.9 per game.
    The Cardinals return to action against Nazareth College on Tuesday, at 8p.m. in Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
