In a 3-0 week for the Cardinals during which they improved to 6-0 in conference, Cornett averaged 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals, while shooting 54.5% from the floor, 100% from 3-point range and a perfect 2-for-2 from the foul line.
The junior led a defense that held three conference opponents to an average of only 54.3 points per game. On Sunday, Cornett was key to holding Ithaca’s Jordan Marcus scoreless (0-for-9 shooting), as the Cardinals handed Ithaca its first conference loss, 94-63 on Saturday. Marcus entered the game averaging 23.8 points per game and the Bombers entered the game averaging 91.1 points per contest. Cornett added 10 points, three assists, and two steals. He also finished with five points, five boards, and two assists in the Cardinals’ 73-40 victory over Alfred on Tuesday and led the team with seven assists in an 88-60 victory over Utica on Saturday.
Cornett was also named the Empire 8 Player of the Week.
For the season, Cornett is shooting 47.1% from the floor (16-for-34). He ranks first on the team in both steals (17) and assists (47), and is third on the team in rebounds, averaging 4.1 per game.
Fisher will return to action at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday against host Keuka College in the opening round of the 44th Annual Wendy’s College Classic. Fisher is the Classic’s defending champion.
