St. John Fisher College has named #Melissa Blakeney# of the softball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the week ending March, 15 2009.

            
A sophomore pitcher, Blakeney guided the Cardinals to three wins during the week in the Tucson Invitational, raising her record to a perfect 5-0 on the year. She struck out 15 batters, including eight in Fisher’s 4-2 win over Dubuque, in 19 innings of action, while yielding just one walk and two earned runs over the three-game span.

            
Blakeney went the distance to pickup the win over Dubuque, her third win of the season, and continued her efforts in wins over Wesleyan University on Wednesday and Thursday. The right-hander surrendered just two runs (one earned) in 11 combined innings.

            
For the season, Blakeney’s 5-0 mark leads the team, while her 1.08 earned run average ranks second.

After posting a 1-9 record in the Tucson Invitational last season, the Cardinals return to Rochester this year with an 8-2 overall mark. Fisher will return to action March 27^th against Medaille College in the first game of a four-game homestand.
