St. John Fisher College has named #Steve Karnyski# of the baseball team as the College’s Male Athlete of the week ending March 15, 2009.

A true utility player, Karnyski saw time at multiple positions during the team’s trip to Florida over the spring break. In a 10-9 loss to Olivet College, the freshman played first base while going 3-for-3 at the plate. In his at-bats, Karnyski drove in three RBI’s while scoring an additional run. While batting in the DH position for the Cardinals in a 17-4 win over St. Joseph’s College, Karnyski went 2-for-4 while scoring two runs and driving in a run.

Fisher returned to Rochester with a 4-3 record after its trip to Florida to take place in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Over the week Karnyski went 12-for-21 (.571 BA) while hitting in eight run’s and scoring eight more runs himself. The first-year player also tallied two doubles during the week, and homered once.

Karnyski and the Cardinals will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when they travel to Muhlenberg College. Fisher will spend the weekend at Muhlenberg as they also participate in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
