As a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the baseball team at St. John Fisher University, Michael Cerame brings a plethora of knowledge and experience to the Cardinals' coaching staff.
Â
Cerame’s coaching career began at Bishop Kearney High School in 1986 where he was a volunteer coach for both the football and baseball programs. Following his four-year stint at Bishop Kearney, Cerame transitioned to the Baseball Program Assistant Coach at Irondequoit High School for the varsity, junior varsity, and modified levels. In 1995, Cerame was hired as a pitching instructor for the University of Rochester. Serving as an assistant for one year and the head coach for the following year, Cerame’s freshman pitcher broke the school record for most season wins, and his team broke the school record for most runs scored in one inning.
Â
Cerame moved on to an Assistant Head Coach position in 1996 for the Northeastern Collegiate Baseball League. While in that role, he worked as a pitching and hitting instructor and coached 29 players that went on to play professional baseball. During that time, Cerame also began coaching at St. John Fisher where he was the Assistant Head Coach and worked specifically with hitting, infielders, and outfielders.
Â
In 2006, Cerame stepped away from the collegiate level and returned to the high school stage. He was named the Program Assistant for Webster Schroeder High School as he coached modified, junior varsity, and varsity baseball. In 2016, he was part of the Section V Coaching Staff of the Year.
Â
Cerame returned to Fisher in 2010 as a Volunteer Assistant Coach and was part of the 2016 and 2022 Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year selections. In total, Cerame has 38 years of coaching on his resume with 22 of those years being at St. John Fisher.
