Brees Segala, who served as the quarterbacks coach, recruiting coordinator and junior varsity head coach at Fisher from 2022-23, returned to the Cardinals as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in March 2025.Â
The Cardinals’ offense took steps forward in several areas under Segala’s direction during the 2025 season, significantly improving its marks from 2024 in rushing yards per game (172.7 from 140.9), completion percentage (62.59% from 59.36%), touchdown-interception ratio (17 TD - 9 INT from 14 INT - 12 TD) and sacks allowed (20 from 35). Fisher also saw increases in points per game (23.36 from 23.30), first downs per game (21.7 from 20.7) and third-down conversion percentage (46.5% from 46.3%).Â
Fisher had a pair of quarterbacks log significant playing time in 2025, and both produced when called upon. Over eight games (seven starts), Mason Lister completed 63% of his passes for 1,309 yards with 10 touchdowns to five interceptions and rushed for 313 yards with two scores en route to third-team All-Empire 8 Conference honors. Ryan Whitney, who also played in eight games (four starts), logged the second-highest completion percentage (66%) by a Fisher quarterback in a season while throwing for 703 yards and seven touchdowns to three interceptions. He added 414 yards rushing with three touchdowns.Â
The Cardinals ended the season with four of the Empire 8 Conference’s top 20 players in total offense – Lister (1,622 yards), Whitney (1,117 yards), running back Deante Hall (645 yards) and running back Camden Chance (446 yards). Additionally, seven of the Cardinals’ 10 All-Empire 8 selections were offensive players, with offensive lineman Elijah Williams and wide receiver Jaylen Brantley garnering second-team recognition.Â
During his first stint at Fisher, Segala coached University at Buffalo transfer quarterback Aaron Chase, who finished his collegiate career ninth in program history in passing touchdowns (27), eighth in yards (2,978) and fifth in completion percentage (61%). He added 435 yards and five touchdowns rushing.Â
Segala played quarterback at SUNY Cortland from 2018-21. As a senior, he passed for 2,620 yards with 31 touchdowns and rushed for 382 yards with five scores as the Red Dragons went 11-1, won the Empire 8 title and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Football Championship.
One of just 15 finalists for the coveted Gagliardi Trophy, presented annually to the top Division III player, Segala earned D3football.com All-Region honors in 2021. He also won Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year that season.Â
Segala graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2022 with a degree in sport management.
