Morrison

Ryne Morrison

Ryne Morrison has successfully led the recommencement of the St. John Fisher wrestling program, which went on a 38-year hiatus before being re-added to the university’s growing intercollegiate athletics profile in 2022.

Over three seasons under Morrison, the Cardinals have gone 22-9 in dual action, including 10-1 in 2023-24. Several wrestlers have placed in the NCAA Division III Region II Championships, including six last season, and Alex Samson (141 lbs) became the program’s second-ever wrestling All-American and first since the program’s resumption in 2023-24. Samson placed seventh in the NCAA DIII National Championships that season.

The Cardinals have also excelled in the classroom under Morrison, posting the fifth-highest team grade-point average (3.73) in Division III in 2024. Additionally, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) named senior Daniel Parkulo (biochemistry), junior Derek Bernardino (data analytics), freshman Trevor Bishop (cybersecurity) and sophomores Paul Lichter (athletic performance), Dylan Devine (finance) and Jackson Burns (marketing) 2024 Scholar All-Americans.

Morrison previously served as an assistant at Adrian College, where he helped build the Bulldogs into one of the top Division III programs.

During his time in Michigan, Morrison, who served as the program’s primary recruiting coordinator, mentored and developed four National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Americans and had three individuals qualify for the NCAA Championship in all.  Furthermore, under Morrison’s guidance, Adrian had eight Central Region Place Winners, eight NWCA Scholar All-Americans and eight First-Team All-MIAA selections.

Through Morrison’s recruitment efforts, Adrian went from a 2-8 record in dual meets in 2018 to owning a 22-9 overall mark over the last three seasons as the program achieved its first-ever national ranking after being pegged 18th in 2021 by FloWrestling.

Before his time at Adrian, Morrison served as a graduate assistant at Heidelberg University, where he coached two more Scholar All-Americans and an NCAA qualifier.

A graduate of Ursinus College in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Physiology, Morrison was a four-year member of the Bears’ wrestling program, where he was named All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference during his senior campaign.  Morrison, who was named a team captain, was voted a Scholar-Athlete and was a member of the Division III Cultural Exchange Team.  Following his time in Collegeville, Pa., Morrison went on to earn a Master’s degree at the University of Mount Union in Educational Leadership in Athletic Coaching.
