Josh Pomerleau joined the St. John Fisher track and field and cross country programs as an assistant coach in 2023. He specializes in coaching the Cardinals’ men’s and women’s pole vaulters.

Pomerleau has coached multiple All-Empire 8 Conference and All-Region pole vault athletes and has helped raise the men’s and women’s program records for the event. He has had an integral role in the development of five-time Empire 8 champion Hayden Penna, who became the first pole vaulter in Fisher history to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2026. Penna, Fisher’s indoor and outdoor pole vault record holder, achieved second-team All-America status in the indoor national meet.

Before his time at St. John Fisher, Pomerleau got into the coaching field as an exercise specialist for UR Medicine’s Fitness Science group in addition to running the strength and conditioning program at Webster Schroeder High School.

Pomerleau, from Webster, graduated from Nazareth University, obtaining a degree in music education with minors in jazz studies and music theory. A former pole vault athlete, he earned All-Empire 8 honors multiple times and was the conference’s outdoor champion in 2023 as a graduate senior. His mark of 4.55 meters still stands as Nazareth’s outdoor men’s pole vault record.
