Stephen England was hired to lead the St. John Fisher men’s volleyball program in 2017 and has built the Cardinals into one of the premier programs in Division III after accumulating 80 wins over the last five seasons.
Since being appointed, England has had the Cardinals in the postseason three times overall including each of the last two seasons. In 2022, Fisher claimed its first-ever United Volleyball Conference title after having defeated back-to-back top-10 opponents to earn the program’s first berth into the NCAA Division III Championship.
With England on the bench, Fisher has found a home within the American Volleyball Coaches national poll after having finished each of the last three seasons ranked inside the top-15 in Division III.
One of the top recruiters in the sport, England’s ability to attract and develop top level talent has been evident at every turn with the Cardinals boasting five All-America selections in just five short years along with several All-Conference and All-Region players. Additionally, England has boasted three players to have been named the UVC Player, Libero and Rookie of the Year.
The Cardinals continued to build a championship caliber program in 2022, vaulting into the national conversation after winning the UVC Championship and reaching the NCAA Championship for the first time. Fisher posted a program-best 24-8 overall record that included an eight-match winning streak. At the conclusion of the season, the team boasted three All-Region players, two All-Americans and led the UVC in numerous statistical categories under England’s guidance.
With 164 career coaching wins to his credit, England piloted the Elmira College Soaring Eagles to three straight seasons with at least 20 wins and would go on to be voted the UVC Coach of the Year in 2014 after finishing with a 24-10 overall mark.
Prior to his time at Elmira, England served as an assistant coach with Division I University of Washington for two years and held a similar role with Nazareth College where he helped lead the Golden Flyers to the Sweet 16.
A native of Rochester, England graduated from Nazareth College in 2006.
