Gary Oehlbeck

With over 30 of years of coaching experience, Gary Oehlbeck is by far the most seasoned coaches on the Fisher staff. Oehlbeck signed on as an assistant coach for Fisher before the start of the 2003 season. Prior to moving to the collegiate ranks, Oehlbeck was the head varsity coach at Gates-Chili High School for 24 years.

While at Gates-Chili, Oehlbeck coincidentally coached Fisher’s head coach Rob Kornaker during his high school playing career in the mid-1980s. Oehlbeck, who retired after 30 of years of teaching, started off coaching junior varsity basketball before moving to the varsity level. As a varsity coach, he compiled a 286-224 record and led the Gates Chili Spartans to four Monroe County Division I titles and a Section V Class AA crown. From 1990 to 1997, Oehlbeck also served as head coach for the Empire State Games Scholastic Western Region teams and helped his teams gain a medal each year.

Gary and his wife, Carol, reside in Chili and have three children: Julianne, Jenni, and Viktor.
