Courage Bowl History

Courage Bowl History

One of the premier games in Division III football, the Courage Bowl has been played every year since 2005 and benefits Camp Good Days and Special Times, Rochester-area organizations that support children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer and other diseases. Camp Good Days selects some of those individuals to serve as honorary coaches and cheerleaders for the game every year.

Former St. John Fisher football assistant coach Gary Mervis founded Camp Good Days after his daughter, Teddi, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 1979.

Camp Good Days strives to improve the quality of life for children, families and adults impacted by cancer or sickle cell anemia through residential camping programs and year-round recreational and support activities, in the Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse, New York, areas. At Camp Good Days, participants have the opportunity to regain some of what cancer has taken away from them. While a vast majority of participants reside in New York, Camp Good Days has no geographical boundaries and accepts children from all 50 states and all over the world.
