No. 2-Seeded St. John Fisher: The Cardinals advanced to the Empire 8 title game for the eighth season in a row and ninth time overall with an 18-9 victory over No. 3-seeded SUNY Geneseo on Thursday at Growney Stadium. Fisher outscored Geneseo 16-3 after falling behind by four, 6-2, in the first quarter. Junior attackman Garrett Sutton powered the Cardinals on the offensive end with a career-high seven total points, six of them coming on goals. Senior midfielder Lane Edinger scored five goals, while junior midfielder Sean Donaldson tallied four total points on three goals and an assist. Four Cardinals chipped in two points apiece, including senior midfielders Nick Hauman (one goal, one assist) and Brett Seaman (one goal, one assist), junior midfielder Robbie Salit (two goals) and junior attackman Scott Bovard (two assists).

St. John Fisher senior goalkeeper Tyler Manning finished with nine saves. The Cardinals' defense had a spectacular second half, holding the Knights to just one goal.

The Cardinals ended the regular season 15-2 overall with an 8-1 mark in conference play, earning the No. 2 seed for the Empire 8 Tournament. Along the way, they picked up marquee non-conference wins over Ithaca, St. Lawrence, Hamilton, Washington College and SUNY Cortland, all teams ranked inside the top 30 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI). The NPI rankings are used in selecting and seeding teams for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Fisher’s lone losses during the regular season came on March 18 against then-No. 10 RIT and on April 18 against Nazareth. The Cardinals have been ranked as high as No. 9 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association Top 20. They currently have the No. 9 spot in the NPI.

No. 1-Seeded Nazareth: The top-seeded Golden Flyers advanced to the E8 title game with a 22-6 victory over Utica on Thursday. Kyle Rosenberger delivered a career performance, posting a personal best eight points and matching his career high with six goals.

Nazareth finished the regular season 11-6 overall with a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play. The Golden Flyers handed the Cardinals their only conference loss of the season on April 18.
