PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University baseball team dropped a 9-4 decision to Brockport on Wednesday afternoon at Dugan Yard.The Cardinals move to 17-6 overall and 6-2 in Empire 8 play with the loss.
Fisher was held to just five hits on the day, with Jack Griffin leading the offense with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double and two RBI. Jordan Perry added a hit, an RBI, and a walk, while Jackson Frey chipped in with a triple and a run scored. Noah Pohrte reached base three times with a hit and two walks, and Hunter Fales drove in a run.
On the mound, Benjamin Huckans (2-1) took the loss after allowing four runs over two innings. Sean Cleary provided 3.2 innings of relief, while Dylan Becker added three innings and allowed just one run. As a staff, Fisher pitchers combined for six strikeouts.
How It Happened
Brockport struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Fisher answered in the bottom of the second as Frey tripled and came around to score on a groundout by Fales, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Golden Eagles added another run in the third to extend their lead to 5-1 before the Cardinals mounted their best rally in the fifth inning. After an error put the leadoff runner on, Perry delivered an RBI single before Griffin ripped a two-run double to left center. Droge followed with an RBI groundout to bring Fisher within one at 5-4.
Brockport responded immediately in the sixth inning, plating three runs on a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double to push the lead to 8-4. The visitors tacked on an insurance run in the ninth inning to secure the 9-4 final.
