#WhyD3: Day 1

By St. John Fisher Athletics Communications

Happy Division III Week, Cardinals!

Division III Week is a national celebration of Division III and its outstanding student-athletes, coaches, athletics administrators and faculty. The week provides an opportunity for everyone associated with a Division III institution or conference to recognize the powerful impact of athletics and student-athletes on campus, within the conference, and in the surrounding community.

Throughout the week, we will be sharing why our student-athletes chose Division III. Today's responses feature Taylor Shackleton (Softball), Lily Miller (Women's Tennis), Jack Griffin (Baseball) and Ryan Whitney (Football).

“I chose D3 because it allows me to not only thrive on the field, but also in the classroom where I can prepare for my future career!” – Taylor Shackleton, Junior, Softball

“I chose DIII athletics because it allows me to compete at a high level while still prioritizing my education. Being a student-athlete has taught me balance and pushed me to challenge myself both on and off the court. It has also given me the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, especially with my teammates, who make the experience even more special.” – Lily Miller, Junior, Women's Tennis

“ I chose D3 because it lets me continue playing the sport I've loved since childhood alongside my best friends, while maintaining a good balance between academics and life outside of athletics..” – Jack Griffin, Senior, Baseball

“I chose d3 because it gave me a chance to compete and play the game I love while also getting a great education and make connections with great coaches and teammates.” – Ryan Whitney, Junior, Football
