PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team breezed past Keuka 30-1 on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium as 17 players contributed at least one point, with 13 of them recording two or more.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 8 in the latest NCAA Power Index (NPI), a ranking system used in Division III to select and seed teams for national tournaments, improved to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in Empire 8 Conference play. With the loss, Keuka dropped to 5-10 overall and 0-7 in conference games.
Freshman attacker Grady Swidersky stuffed his stat line with a season-high eight points, scoring three goals and setting up five others. Junior attackman Carter Van Holland, who matched his career high with six total points, led the Cardinals with five goals.
Senior midfielder Lane Edinger scored five goals and added an assist for five points, while junior midfielder Robbie Salit amassed four points on three goals and an assist. Eight other Cardinals finished with two points apiece.
The Cardinals finished 33-of-34 on faceoffs, with freshman Jonah Vormwald going 17-of-18 and senior Bryce Riffel winning all 14 of his attempts. Freshman Robert Protz claimed both of his chances at the X.
Keuka managed to attempt just six shots (two on goal) in the contest.
How It Happened
The onslaught of goals began early as the Cardinals put six on the board in the first four minutes and change and added seven more during the remainder of the opening quarter to make their lead 13-0. Swidersky, Salit, Edinger and sophomore attackman Tyson DeLisio each scored twice, while Van Holland, junior midfielder Sean Donaldson, junior attackman Garrett Sutton, senior midfielder Brett Seaman and freshman midfielder Darren Vogt found the back of the net once apiece.
Fisher tacked on eight more goals in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 21-0 cushion. Van Holland accounted for half (4) of those tallies, and four players scored once apiece, including Edinger, Sutton, Swidersky and sophomore Sam Hambsch. Swidersky, who racked up seven of his eight points in the first half, also had three assists in the quarter.
Vogt, Edinger, Seaman, sophomore attackman Graham Kesselring and sophomore midfielder Reece Millison scored for the Cardinals in the third quarter. Keuka got rid of its goose egg on the scoreboard with an unassisted tally from Aiden Nice.
Freshman midfielder Max Heieck scored two of the Cardinals' four goals in the fourth quarter. Hambsch and Salit accounted for the other two.
