PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Four St. John Fisher University student-athletes have earned weekly honors from the Empire 8 Conference.
Jack Griffin (Senior, Baseball) – Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week
Griffin had 10 hits in 13 plate appearances and drove in seven runs during the Cardinals' dominant three-game sweep of Alfred over the weekend. He went 5-for-5 with two doubles while driving in four runs as Fisher pounded Alfred 25-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. In the second game, a 32-4 drubbing of the Saxons, Griffin went 3-for-3 with a two-RBI single and an RBI double. He added two more hits in Sunday's weather-shortened 10-0 victory.
Molly Kuhn (Junior, Softball) – Empire 8 Co-Pitcher of the Week
Kuhn allowed just one run on nine hits while striking out 19 batters over the Cardinals' victories against SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo last week. She pitched all seven innings in both games and didn't surrender a walk.
Kuhn, who's earned E8 Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season, racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 3-1 road victory over Brockport on Friday. She struck out seven more batters in a 1-0 victory over Geneseo on Saturday for her third complete-game shutout of the season.
Over 16 games this season, Kuhn sports a 13-4 record with a 2.86 earned-run average. She has 104 strikeouts and has walked only 11 batters.
Ellie Leisen (Junior, Women's Lacrosse) – Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week
A three-time Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week honoree this season, Leisen piled up 15 points on seven goals and eight assists as the Cardinals went 2-1 with wins over SUNY Brockport and Nazareth last week. She had five points on four goals and an assist in a 17-2 win over Brockport on Wednesday and eight points on three goals and a career-best five assists in a 21-4 win over Nazareth on Saturday.
Leisen has amassed five-plus points in eight games this season, including in four of the last five. She has had eight points in two of those contests.
Maddie Lowney (Senior, Women's Lacrosse) – Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week
Lowney had another huge week while anchoring the Cardinals' defense, as she recorded nine caused turnovers to go with seven ground ball recoveries and 13 draw controls over three games. The Cardinals went 2-1 with victories over SUNY Brockport and Nazareth.
The two-time Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year stamped another mark on the Cardinals' record book on Saturday in a 21-4 victory over Nazareth. Lowney, who recently broke Fisher's career record for caused turnovers, bested the single-season program record of 44 turnovers she caused last year with five against the Golden Flyers. She has 45 through 15 contests this season, an average of three per game.
This marks Lowney's fourth time earning E8 Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
