Swidersky, Lauer Lead No. 9 Men's Lacrosse Past Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Freshmen Hayden Lauer and Grady Swidersky each tallied five points to lead the No. 9 St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team to a 12-4 victory over SUNY Brockport on Wednesday evening at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.

The Cardinals, who have won seven straight games, improved to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in Empire 8 Conference play, while Brockport dropped to 2-11 and 2-4, respectively. Including regular-season and playoffs, the Cardinals have won 52 consecutive games against Empire 8 teams since the end of the 2019 season.

Lauer and Swidersky produced identical stat lines on the offensive end with three goals and two assists apiece. Lauer set a season high with his five points, while Swidersky recorded his second game this season with that many points.

Four other Cardinals tallied multiple points, including junior midfielder Sean Donaldson, who scored three goals. Junior attackmen Scott Bovard (one goal, one assist) and Garrett Sutton (two assists) and freshman midfielder Darren Vogt (two assists) had two-point outings.

St. John Fisher goalkeeper Tyler Manning played the full 60 minutes and made 15 saves, two shy of his season high. The senior also scooped up a career-high seven ground balls.

How It Happened

Swidersky scored two goals and set up another as the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening quarter. Bovard, Donaldson and senior midfielder Lane Edinger accounted for the other Fisher goals, two of which were assisted by Lauer.

The teams traded goals early in the second quarter, with sophomore attacker Graham Kesselring scoring for the Cardinals. Brockport trimmed its deficit to three at the 4:34 mark on a goal from Daniel Stiles, but Donaldson responded with two quick tallies to send the Cardinals into the break up by five, 8-3. Swidersky tallied his second assist of the game on the first of those Donaldson tallies.

The third quarter featured just two goals, and the Cardinals accounted for both as Swidersky and Lauer found the back of the net to extend the advantage to 10-3. Lauer capped his three-goal effort with two more in the fourth quarter, putting the finishing touches on another dominant E8 victory for the Cardinals.
