PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 11 St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team opened Empire 8 Conference Play with a 29-2 drubbing of Russell Sage on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium.
The Cardinals improved to 8-1 overall with the victory, their sixth in a row over the Gators. Sage dropped to 2-3 overall (0-2 Empire 8) with the loss.
Fisher had 21 players record at least a point, with 11 of them tallying two or more. Senior attacker Scott Bovard led the Cardinals with eight points on five goals and three assists, while junior midfielder Sean Donaldson finished with four goals and an assist for five points.
Junior attacker Garrett Sutton (3 goals, 1 assist) and freshman attackman Grady Swidersky (1 goal, 3 assists) had four points each. Senior midfielder Nick Hauman (1 goal, 2 assists), sophomore attackmen Logan Welch (2 goals, 1 assist) and Adam Vernon (1 goal, 2 assists) and freshman attackman Max Teel (1 goal, 2 assists) recorded three points each.
Senior midfielder Lane Edinger (1 goal, 1 assist), sophomore attackman Graham Kesselring (2 goals) and freshman midfielder Max Heieck (1 goal, 1 assist) had two points.
The Cardinals dominated on faceoffs, going 31-of-34. Freshman Jonah Vormwald went 17-of-18, while senior Bryce Riffel went 14-of-16.
All four of Fisher's goaltenders saw action, with senior Tyler Manning leading the group with three saves. Junior Ian McIntyre and freshman Jackson Frame each made a save.
How It Happened
The Cardinals put 11 goals on the board in the first quarter, with Bovard accounting for five of them. Sutton found the back of the net three times, while Hauman, Edinger and Welch all scored once.
Fisher struck for seven more goals in the second quarter to push its lead to 18-0 before halftime. Donaldson had two goals, and Welch, Swidersky, sophomore midfielder Sam Hambsch and freshmen midfielders John Korczukowski and Toby Leys contributed one goal apiece.
The Cardinals' lead increased to 21-1 in the third quarter as Donaldson added two more goals. Kesselring and fellow sophomores Owen Kross and Sean Baird also scored for Fisher in the frame.
Heieck, Kesselring, Teel, Vernon, sophomore midfielder Reece Millison and senior midfielder Matt Slowinski tallied goals in the fourth quarter to finish off the drubbing of the Gators.

The Cardinals finished four goals shy of breaking their single-game record (32 goals against SUNY Poly last season).

The game marked Bovard's third this season with five points or more. He had five on three goals and two assists against Onetona and nine on five goals and four assists against Rhodes.
