WINTER HAVEN, FL. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team dropped a high-scoring contest to Clark University, 15-13, on Saturday morning at the Chain of Lakes Complex.
The Cardinals moved to 3-2 on the season.
Fisher totaled 13 runs on 10 hits and drew 12 walks in an offensive battle that featured 28 combined runs. Jordan Perry led the way offensively, going 3-for-6 with three RBIs and a stolen base. Austin Droge finished with a hit, three RBIs, three walks, and two runs scored, while Brendan Bucello went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Scott Sleurs provided a spark behind the plate, collecting two hits and driving in a run. The Cardinals were also hit by six pitches as they consistently applied pressure throughout the game.
On the mound, Ethan Fulton (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs over three innings. Fisher utilized eight pitchers in the contest as Clark capitalized on timely hitting, including two home runs, to secure the win.
How It Happened
Clark struck first in the opening inning, but Fisher responded in the second. Droge delivered a two-RBI single to give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage. The lead was short-lived, as Clark answered with two runs in the second and three more in the third, highlighted by a three-run homer, to take a 6-2 lead. Fisher battled back in the fifth inning. Perry lined a two-RBI single up the middle before Jacob Penafeather worked a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 7-5. Clark responded with a three-run fifth and a four-run sixth, capped by an inside-the-park grand slam, to extend its lead to 14-5.
The Cardinals refused to go away. Fisher exploded for six runs in the seventh inning, capitalizing on walks, hit batters, and timely singles from Bucello and Perry to trim the deficit to 14-11. After Clark added another run in the bottom half, Fisher pushed across two more in the ninth on RBI free passes from Jackson Frey and Noah Pohrte, bringing the tying run to second base.
