PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Senior attacker Dharma Makarowsky set career highs in goals (4) and total points (6) to lead the No. 15 St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team (1-1) to its first win of the season on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium, 18-7 over Clarkson University (0-1). The victory marked Marykate Edmunds' first as the Cardinals' head coach.
How it Happened
The Cardinals took command early, striking for three goals in the first five minutes. Sophomore midfielder Athena Lazina scored in between those two goals, finding the back of the net on a free-position shot for her first goal of the year.
Senior defender Paige Miller buried a feed from sophomore defender Chelsea Mesick to make it 4-0, and senior attacker Megan McGrath added one more to the Cardinals' lead shortly after with an unassisted tally. Senior midfielder Kaley Griffin and junior attacker Ellie Leisen scored after Brooklynne Perrigo got Clarkson on the board late in the first quarter to extend Fisher's lead to 7-1.
Makarowsky scored her third goal of the game with 35 seconds left in the opening quarter and added her fourth less than a minute into the second. The Cardinals led by nine, 12-3, at halftime as Lazina and sophomore attackers Chloe Scanlan and Ally Stank added on before the break.
Clarkson scored three times in the third quarter, but the Cardinals still led comfortably, 14-6, entering the fourth quarter. Scanlan scored her second and third goals of the game in the final frame, while Griffin and Leisen each added their second tallies.
