Women's Volleyball Pushes Winning Streak To 12 With Sweeps Of Baldwin Wallace And Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to 12 matches on Saturday with sweeps of Baldwin Wallace University and Buffalo State in the Bengal Invite. Fisher (12-1) has won eight of its matches via sweep. 

How It Happened: St. John Fisher 3, Baldwin Wallace 0

  • Freshman Kalyna Dannenberg led the Cardinals with five kills in a 25-19 victory in the opening set. Dannenberg and junior Ana Gutman each had a pair of kills during a 6-1 run that gave the Cardinals a 20-13 lead. 

  • The Cardinals came back with ease after falling behind 5-0 in the second set, using a 7-1 run to take a 7-6 advantage. Fisher went on another 7-1 run later in the frame to take a nine-point lead, 22-13, and finished off a 25-15 win soon after. Sophomore Lydia Fraser had five kills and hit .273 in the set. 

  • Dannenberg slammed five more kills, and junior libero Kiera Hartpence had three service aces as the Cardinals wrapped up the sweep with another 25-19 victory in the third set. 

Match Notes

  • Dannenberg led the Cardinals with 13 kills and hit .273 for a second straight match. She also had seven digs, two total blocks and a service ace. 

  • Fraser slammed 12 kills while hitting .292 to go with two service aces and eight digs. 

  • Senior Madalyn Bouton had six kills and registered a .625 hitting percentage. 

  • Hartpence led the Cardinals with a season-high four service aces. She also totaled a match-high 12 digs. 

  • Senior setter Reilly Morrow recorded a match-high 26 assists. 

How It Happened: St. John Fisher 3, Buffalo State 0 

  • Dannenberg, Fraser and junior Kaylene Noble each had four kills to lead the Cardinals to a 25-19 victory in the first set. The Cardinals had 15 kills and hit .278 as a team in the frame. 

  • The Cardinals stayed hot in the second set, slamming 12 kills while hitting .423 collectively in a 25-12 win. Buffalo State's offensive issues also aided the lopsided score, as the Bengals committed eight errors and hit -.200 in the set. 

  • The Cardinals completed their second sweep of the day with a 25-20 win in the third set. Dannenberg had five kills and hit .364, while Noble pounded four kills and aced a serve. 

Match Notes

  • The Cardinals had 42 kills as a team while hitting a season-high .296. 

  • Dannenberg racked up 12 kills while hitting .407. She also had 11 digs as part of her third double-double of the season. 

  • Noble, who hit .300, also logged her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 11 digs. She added a pair of service aces and ended the match with a team-high 15 points. 

  • Gutman led the Cardinals with three blocks, one solo and two assists. 

  • Morrow dished out a match-high 31 assists. 

  • Hartpence led the Cardinals with 12 digs.
