PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher University stands in fourth place in the race for the 2024-25 Empire 8 Commissioner's Cup after the winter season, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Fisher has a composite score of .702 through the fall and winter seasons, sitting just behind third-place Nazareth (.748). SUNY Geneseo (.850) leads the conference, and SUNY Brockport (.757) stands in second place.
In the winter, Fisher's women's basketball team reached the conference semifinals, while the men's track and field team placed third in the E8 Indoor Championships.
Men's soccer and women's volleyball won Empire 8 championships in the fall to earn NCAA Tournament berths. Fisher's field hockey and women's soccer teams made appearances in the conference playoffs.
St. John Fisher has won the Empire 8 Commissioner's Cup five years in a row.
Commissioner's Cup points are awarded based on each team's finish in the Empire 8 conference standings at the completion of the regular season and postseason. Points are awarded on a scale dependent upon the number of schools that sponsor the sport (affiliate members are not calculated into the point scale). A team's regular season finish will be added to its post-season finish and divided by two for the final total for that sport. Teams tied for a position in the regular season standings are ranked based on tiebreaker scenarios. The actual number of points earned is then divided by the amount of possible points for each school based on conference-sponsored sports to determine their overall percentage.
Final standings will be released in May after the completion of the spring season.
