ELMIRA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's ice hockey team dropped its first conference game to Elmira 3-2 on Friday night. The Cardinals now hold an overall record of 3-2 (1-0 UCHC), while Emlira improved to 2-3 overall (1-0 UCHC) with the victory.
How it Happened
With under five minutes left in the opening period, Elmira's Stepehan McDonald found the back of the net to open the scoring. With just three seconds remaining in the period, Owen Halloran added another goal to give the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 lead.
About 12 minutes into the second period, Sam Ciappa and Leyton Pettypiece set up Wyatt Swonger to cut the Cardinals' deficit to one. Three minutes later, the Soaring Eagles restored their two-goal cushion when Seth Ferguson beat Sebastian Woods.
Brendan Merriman scored Fisher's second goal off a clean feed from Pettypiece and Ciappa in the third period, but the late tally was not enough for a comeback.
