Women's Volleyball Thrashes Poly On Senior Day

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team cruised to a Senior Day sweep of SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon at Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium. 

The Cardinals (24-1, 9-0 Empire 8) won their 24th consecutive match and recorded their 16th straight sweep, extending their rally scoring era records in those categories. Fisher has won 16 straight matches against conference teams (including postseason) and owns a 33-2 overall record since a four-set loss to Nazareth on Oct. 23 of last season. 

Fisher's group of eight seniors honored during a ceremony before the match included Kiera Hartpence, Madalyn Bouton, Erika Edholm, Sophia Wypyski, Reilly Morrow, Isabella Mahar, Marilyn Whitcavitch and Jordan Kern

How It Happened 

Junior outside hitter Kaylene Noble led the Cardials with five kills while hitting .833 in a 25-10 victory in the first set. Fisher also had six service aces in the frame, with Mahar and sophomore Lydia Fraser each recording three. 

The Cardinals had eight more service aces during a 25-11 trouncing of the Wildcats during the second set. Morrow had three, while Mahar and Whitcavitch each recorded two and Kern one. Freshman outside hitter Kalyna Dannenberg slammed five kills while hitting .364. 

Dannenberg added five more kills as Fisher completed the sweep with a 25-9 victory in the third set. Fraser had four kills and aced four serves. 

Match Notes

  • The Cardinals' 18 service aces marked a season high. 

  • Fraser led the Cardinals with 12 points on a career-high seven service aces and five kills. She's had four or more aces in seven matches this season. 

  • Mahar matched her career high with five service aces. 

  • Dannenberg led the Cardinals with 10 kills while hitting .563, her second-highest percentage of the season (min. 10 attempts). 

  • Noble had seven kills while hitting .438 to surpass 300 for the season. She needs just three more to reach 1,000 for her career. 

  • Noble has hit .300 or better in 16 of Fisher's 25 matches this season. She's hit .400 or better in nine of those contests, including three in a row. 

  • Bouton recorded a season-high seven kills on seven attempts. 

  • Whitcavitch pounded a career-high six kills while hitting .500. 

  • Morrow finished the match with 30 assists. 

  • Hartpence led the Cardinals with eight digs. 

  • The Cardinals amassed 37 kills and hit .387 as a team.
