Men’s Lacrosse Fend Off Knights To Secure Win, 14-13

GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team traveled to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup against the Knights. The thrilling contest involved 27 total goals, and the Cardinals came away with the 14-13 victory to bring their record to 4-5 overall.

Colin Blakeslee kicked off the scoring 40 second in to give the team the lead, but the Knights quickly answered with two of their own. To conclude the first quarter, Matthew Kemmis and Blakeslee recorded back-to-back scores to push Fisher back in front 3-2. After Geneseo tied the game at 3-3, the Cardinals tallied three unanswered scores thanks to Timmy Salit, Jake Slowinski and Keaton Piconi. Kemmis scored his second of the day to conclude the first half to give Fisher a 7-4 lead into halftime.

As the third quarter moved along, the Knights began to make their comeback. Sean Donaldson and Jack Cornell each scored goals in the quarter, but heading into the fourth the score was tied at 9-9. Kemmis began the final frame with a goal to give the team the lead, but Geneseo answered with two goals to go ahead by one with six minutes to play. Kemmis once again evened the game, but the Knights responded to remain in front. It wasn't until a pair of Brady Mason goals pushed Fisher to a 13-12 advantage, and Kemmis added insurance with two minutes to go. The Cardinals held on to win 14-13.

Kemmis finished the day with five goals on 13 shots. Mason added two assists to his two goals for four points, which second most for the team. Salit and Blakeslee each contributed three points, with Salit going for one goal and two assists and Blakeslee scoring twice with one assist.
