Football Falls To Morrisville

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team lost its third straight game on Saturday, falling to SUNY Morrisville 14-11 at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals dropped to 3-6 overall (2-4 Empire 8), while the Mustangs improved to 5-4 overall (4-2 Empire 8) and won their first road game of the season. St. John Fisher closes the regular season with another home game next Saturday against Utica.

Morrisville quarterback Chris Stancarone completed 10 of 16 passes for 198 yards. He threw touchdown passes to wide receiver Joey Chirugi (first quarter) and tight end Quamel Jarvis (second quarter) in the first half as the Mustangs jumped out to a 14-0 lead.

The Cardinals' defense kept the game from getting further out of reach, forcing Morrisville to punt on five straight possessions and getting a fourth-down stop early in the fourth quarter. St. John Fisher senior kicker Kyle Farewell made a season-long 34-yard field goal to get Fisher on the board and cut Morrisville's lead to 14-3 as time expired in the second quarter.

St. John Fisher sophomore quarterback Ryan Whitney capped a 12-play, 63-yard drive in the fourth quarter with a seven-yard passing score to junior wide receiver Chase Vincenzi, who recorded his first collegiate receiving touchdown. The Cardinals converted the two-point try on a pass from Whitney to senior running back Peyton Nolan

Nolan finished the game with 92 yards rushing on 21 attempts. Sophomore tight end Nate McGoldrick had five catches for 54 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Jackson Cusack hauled in five passes for 53 yards.

Fifth-year linebacker Joe Miscia led the Cardinals with a season-high 13 tackles. He joined Mike Fox (478 tackles from 2001-04) as the second player in program history to surpass 400 career tackles (Miscia has 405).
