Burkhart Makes Program History, Men's Soccer Beats Keuka 6-0 On Senior Day

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's soccer team set a season-high in goals, and goalkeeper Christian Burkhart made program history as the Cardinals dominated Keuka College 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. 

Fisher (8-4-4 overall) improved to 7-1-2 in the Empire 8 with the Senior Day victory, setting the stage for a massive regular-season finale against crosstown rival Nazareth at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at NLPA Field. The winner will secure the No. 1 seed for the conference's postseason tournament. 

Game Notes

  • Burkhart set a program single-season record with his ninth shutout of the season. He entered the contest tied for the most in school history with Kyle Metcalfe, who held the record (8 shutouts in 2012) for nearly 12 years. 

  • Burkhart leads the Empire 8 and is tied for third in Division III in shutouts. 

  • The Cardinals honored 14 seniors before the game. That group included Henry McDonald (defender), Ewan Maxwell (manager), Christian Burkhart (keeper), Joey Avallone (left wing), Dominic Tabechian (defender), Troy Jezioro (midfielder), Matt Gentile (midfielder), Adam Grover (midfielder), Jacob McGinnis (midfielder), Riley Rease (forward),  Blake Petocchi (defender), Brandon Andracki (forward), Trevor Heschke (defender) and Ryan Brown (defender). 

  •  The Cardinals surpassed their single-game high in goals (3 coming into the game) in the first half, scoring four times in the opening 45 minutes. 

  • On senior day, all six of the Cardinals' goals were scored by seniors. 

  • Joey Avallone and Adam Grover each scored twice in the first half. 

  • Avallone recorded his first career multi-goal game and tallied a career-best five points. He had the assist on Grover's first goal of the game. 

  • Avallone leads the Cardinals in goals (5), assists (4) and total points (14). 

  • Grover scored his first two goals of the season in the contest. It was also his first collegiate multi-goal game. 

  • Riley Rease (unassisted) scored his fourth goal of the season early in the second half to give the Cardinals a 5-0  lead. 

  • Rease, who also tied his career-high in assists (2) in the contest, has scored a goal in three straight games. 

  • Trevor Heschke scored the Cardinals' final goal – and the first of his career – at the 67:17 mark on an assist from fellow senior Matt Gentile

  • Sophomore Jack Tamburino had the assist on Grover's second goal of the game.
