BALTIMORE, MD – The St. John Fisher University baseball team traveled to Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, MD for day one of the NCAA Regionals. The Cardinal's first matchup saw the team take on #20 Randolph-Macon College. An early four-run first inning, along with strong pitching, helped the Yellowjackets end the Cardinal's 16-game winning-streak.
Up first to bat,
Noah Campanelli homered to right field, giving Fisher the early lead. RMC quickly responded, scoring four in the bottom of the inning. The top of the fifth saw
Jack Migliore score on a wild pitch, with Fisher still trailing by three runs. Keeping the hits coming,
Brian Norsen singled to center field, grabbing the Cardinals only hit of the inning.
Ethan Perry picked up his first hit of the game in the top of the seventh, singling to center field. Collecting a hit in the top of the eighth,
Brian Norsen singled to left center, with
James Murphy advancing to second. Fisher's final hit was similar to their first, with Campanelli homering to right field. The game ended after nine innings, with the Yellowjackets winning, 3-10.
Starting for the Cardinals,
Patrick McGuire pitched the first 5.0 innings, facing 27 batters, striking out two, and allowing five hits and six runs. After today's result, McGuire moves to an overall record of 8-1.
Hunter Walsh came in next, pitching the next 2.1 innings. Facing 10 batters, Walsh struck out two batters, walked one, and allowed three hits and two runs. Coming in for the final 0.2 innings,
Logan Persse faced four batters, giving up two hits and two runs.
Up next, the Cardinals take on Penn State Altoona in a final elimination game. The two teams will meet at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, MD, with the first pitch set for 11 a.m.
