ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher College softball team didn't have to travel far to pick up a pair of victories on Wednesday, as the Cardinals swept their crosstown rivals at Rochester Institute of Technology by scores of 2-0 and 6-1.
In the first contest,
Ainsley Evanetski twirled the first complete-game shutout of her career to guide the Cardinals (5-11) to a narrow two-run win over the Tigers (5-9). Fisher secured its second doubleheader sweep of the 2022 campaign in the nightcap, thanks in part to a grand slam in the third inning.

Earning her third win in the last five days, Evanetski tossed the first shutout of her freshman season by blanking the Tigers across 7.0 outstanding innings. The Rochester native gave up only four hits and walked one while amassing five punchouts. She got stronger as the game went on and retired 11 consecutive batters to end the game.
Although the Cardinals outhit RIT, 7-to-4, runs were scarce. Three straight two-out singles and a Tiger error allowed Fisher to pull ahead, 1-0, in the top of the first. The only other run of the game was scored in the fifth inning when
Cassidy Evanetski doubled and reached home on an
Abby Flakus RBI base knock.
One of six Cardinals with a hit, Flakus paced the Fisher lineup in the first bout by going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Just as
Ainsley Evanetski continued her stretch of noteworthy pitching performances, so did
Allie Klonowski in the batter's box. The Buffalo product extended her hit streak to four consecutive games and homered for the third time in the past two days. Her home run, a grand slam, helped Klonowski tie a single-game career-high with five RBIs while batting 3-for-4.
Allison Rogowski also recorded three hits, batting 3-for-4 with a game-high two runs scored. Junior
Grace Mroczka didn't have a hit but reached base safely in all three of her plate appearances with a trio of walks.
Not wanting to be outshined in the pitcher's circle, St. John Fisher freshman
Cassidy Ormond also notched a complete-game victory in the nightcap. A Cicero native, Ormond logged season highs in innings (7.0) and strikeouts (7), and did not allow an earned run for the first time this season.
Fisher resumes Empire 8 Conference action on Friday, April 8, when the Cardinals return home for a two-game set against Alfred University. The opening game is scheduled to begin with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
