Baseball Done in by Four Homers in Loss to Brockport

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College baseball fell to SUNY Brockport, 16-5, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference tilt inside Dugan Yard.  With the loss, Fisher slipped to 22-12 on the year while the Golden Eagles improved to 25-6 overall.

The Cardinals spotted Brockport a three-spot in the top of the first, but were able to get a pair back in the home half of the inning after three straight singles including an RBI poke from Michael Beimel that made it 3-1.  With two runners on and only one away, Brian Norsen stepped in and lifted a sacrifice fly to center that pushed Ben Lavery home before the Golden Eagles could retire the side with a one-run edge intact.

Over the next five innings, Brockport would grow its lead to seven after plating six runs on eight hits including two home runs before Norsen crushed a solo shot of his own over the Cardinals' bullpen in the bottom of the sixth that made it 9-3.
Trailing by six in the seventh, Fisher was unable to have a clean inning as Brockport belted two more hits and lifted a sacrifice fly that made it 10-3.

Holding a seven-run advantage, Brockport tacked on six more runs in the top of the ninth after a pair of wild pitches with a runner at third followed by two two-run homers to left field pushed the visitors' lead to 13 with the bottom of the ninth left to play.

Cole Hedden started on the mound for Fisher and moved to 0-1 on the season following the loss.  Hedden allowed three runs on two hits over an inning before being lifted for Jason Wall who let in four runs on five hits in two innings.  Patrick McGuire pitched three innings and yielded a pair of runs while Joseph Tronetti gave up two hits and a run over three outs.  Christian O'Brien pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Anthony Lang was hit for six runs (four earned) over two-thirds of an inning.  Tim Geissel threw one pitch and recorded one out.

The Cardinals will return to conference play at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Keuka College for a doubleheader with the Wolves.
