ROCHESTER, N.Y. – At their final meet of the indoor season before the Empire 8 Conference Championship, the St. John Fisher College women's track and field team got in their last chance reps on Friday evening at Nazareth's Conference Tune-Up, at the College's Golisano Training Center.
The biggest performance of the day came in the throwers' pit from
Makenna King. The sophomore, who already sealed her trip to this year's All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championship in the shot put, made personal history in the event by tossing a career-best mark of 12.07 meters on her second attempt of the day, for fourth place. Her mark now places her amongst the region's top four marks and the AARTFC's top 10.
Additionally,
Jordan Lehman placed sixth in the shotput with a mark of 11.54 meters, then turned around to place ninth in the weight throw at a mark of 12.94 meters. Alongside her was classmate
Elizabeth Izydorczak who placed 11th in the weight throw at 12.45 meters.
In the other Cardinals' field event of the day,
Veronica Duell posted another great mark in the long jump. She measured 5.31 meters today on her second attempt to take a third-place finish.
Gracie Wright placed sixth in today's 200-meter dash at a personal best time of 26.60 seconds, while also speeding to a career best time in the 60-meter dash invitational at 8.29 seconds. She was joined in sprints by junior
Maria Covelli, who ran a final 60-time of 8.32 seconds. Likewise,
Milan Simmons and
McKenna Cone went 10-12 in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary rounds with times of 9.98 seconds and 9.989 seconds, respectively.
Brenda Le ran a new personal best in the 400-meter run this afternoon as her time of 1:05.99 earned her a 15th place finish, while
Angelea Collins earned her own PR in the 800-meter run for a 15th place mark of her own, in 2:35.42. Finally,
Taylor Highers ran a 5:30.63-mile time to grab a sixth-place finish and tally her career best time.
Next weekend, the Cardinals will head down I-90 to Utica to defend their conference title at the Empire 8 Conference Indoor Championship, on Friday, February 25th and Saturday, February 26th.
