Woolingham, Gentile Lift Men's Soccer to Shut Out of Sage; Fisher Honors Lone Senior

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team notched its first shutout of the year as the Cardinals blanked visiting Russell Sage College, 2-0, on Friday afternoon in an Empire 8 tilt on the pitch inside Growney Stadium.  With the win, Fisher, which celebrated its lone senior Kevin Halsteter prior to the opening whistle, climbed to 3-1 on the year and 3-1 in the Empire 8 standings while the Gators fell to 2-1 overall and 1-1 against conference competition.

It didn't take long for the Cardinals to get on the board as Ben Woolingham scored his third goal in as many games in just the ninth minute on a feed from Justin Bonetto to make it 1-0 in the home team's favor.

The lead carried through to the 65th minute when Fisher doubled its advantage as Antonio Robles found Matt Gentile who delivered a strike from the right side of the box into the far corner of the goal for his first-career goal and a 2-0 Fisher cushion.

As the game wore on, Sage wasn't able to find any daylight as the Cardinals' back line limited the Gators to just two shots over the final 25 minutes, both of which were scooped by the Cardinals' keeper, Jadon Schlierf.

In all, Fisher was credited with having taken a 17 shots.  Gentile led the way with five on the day including four that were on goal.  Woolingham took four shots overall while Stephen Guidi finished with two shots in the win.

Schlierf played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves to collect his first-career clean sheet.

The Cardinals will look to build upon on their momentum at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel across town to play Rochester Institute of Technology in an exhibition.
