Trotman, Patterson Dazzle as No. 12 Softball Sweeps Keuka

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team remained in first place in the Empire 8 standings as the Cardinals, who are ranked 12th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, took both ends of a doubleheader against the Keuka College Wolves at the Softball Complex.  With the sweep, Fisher improved to 9-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play while Keuka dipped to 1-3 overall and against Empire 8 opponents.

FISHER 6, KEUKA 0

After a scoreless first inning, the Cardinals got on the board in the bottom of the second frame as Allie Klonowski singled and crossed home plate when Rachel Evans singled to give Fisher a 1-0 edge.

Fisher doubled its lead in the next inning as Maria Marcera smoked a one-out double and came around to score when Sammie Torlish reached on an error by the Wolves' centerfielder to make it a two-run affair.

The Cardinals struck again in the fourth courtesy of an RBI-double off the bat of Abby Flakus and would blow the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs on three hits and a Keuka error to make it 6-0.

Fisher clubbed nine hits in the win led by Evans who was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs while Klonowski finished with two hits in four at-bats including a triple and an RBI.  Marcera was 2-for-4 while Megan Kreger and Flakus had one hit apiece in the win.

Emily Trotman moved to 4-1 in the circle after scattering just four hits over 7.0 innings of work to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

FISHER 10, KEUKA 0 (Five Innings)

In the back end of the doubleheader, Fisher put the Wolves in a hole in just the bottom of the second after Allison Rogowski drove in a run before Trotman doubled in two runners to make it 3-0 in the home team's favor.

The Cardinals added to their lead in the third with two runs including an RBI from Evans and a solo home run from Kreger to open up a five-run edge.

Ahead by five, the Cardinals plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth after sending 12 hitters to the dish before Keuka could retire the side.

Fisher came away with 14 hits in the win with Trotman and Kreger accounting for three apiece.  Flakus was 2-for-2 in the win while Rogowski had two hits in three at-bats.

Jess Patterson remained perfect in the circle as the sophomore moved to 5-0 after yielding just three hits over five innings of work.

The Cardinals will return to action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Alfred University in an Empire 8 doubleheader at the Softball Complex.
