Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 12 Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 16 St. Lawrence in Top 25 Showdown

CANTON, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team was upended on Saturday as the Cardinals, who are ranked 12th in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, fell to No. 16 St. Lawrence University, 14-10, in a non-conference showdown at Hall-Leet Stadium.  With the loss, Fisher closed out the weekend at 3-2 while the Saints improved to 1-0.

After falling behind by three goals through the first 13 minutes of play, Fisher would get one back with 2:00 minutes showing on the clock when Nicholas Miller found Nick Ehmann to make it 3-1.

The Saints extended their lead to five goals with back-to-back tallies to begin the second period, but Fisher countered with three goals of its own including marks from Miller, Matthew Kemmis and a man-up goal from Jack Mulvihill to pull to within two, 6-4.

Leading by two goals with time winding down in the first half, St. Lawrence tacked on a man-up goal, but was unable to contain the Cardinals on the other end of the field as Miller buried a goal with just one second remaining in the half to make it 7-5 at the break.

Coming out of intermission, St. Lawrence scored two quick goals to open up a 9-5 cushion, but Ian Evans and Jacob Risavi each found the back of the net with Tucker O'Donnell assisting on both goals to cut the deficit to two, 9-7.

With seven minutes gone by in the third frame and the momentum beginning to favor Fisher, the Saints regained control and produced three unanswered goals to close out the third with a 12-7 advantage.

Down by five with just 15 minutes left to play, Evans and Kemmis each scored to make it a three-goal affair, but the Saints afforded themselves some breathing room with a goal of their own to make it 13-9.

After swapping shots over the next five minutes, Fisher broke through as Miller fed Jordan Depetres in front of the cage to make it 13-10, but time ran out on the comeback as St. Lawrence padded its lead with a late goal to earn the non-conference win.

Evans, Miller and Kemmis each scored twice in the loss with Miller leading the way with four points.  The Ithaca native now needs just two goals to tie Fisher's all-time mark.

Joe Post was 11-for-22 at the faceoff x and scooped up a team-high six groundballs.

In goal, Darin Eakins (3-2) was saddled with the loss despite a career outing as the graduate student made 16 saves in all.

Fisher will continue its run of top-25 opponents at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when it welcomes the top-ranked RIT Tigers to Growney Stadium.
