Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 13 Cardinals Move to 2-0 Behind 16-10 Win Over Clarkson

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – For the second time in the last four days, the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team defeated Clarkson after the No. 13 Cardinals bested the Golden Knights on Wednesday, 16-10, in a non-conference affair inside Growney Stadium.  With the win, Fisher improved to 2-0 while Clarkson slipped to 0-2 overall.

Jacob Gallina had a big day with five points including two goals while Jordan DePetres finished with a team-high four goals in the win.  Freshman Matthew Kemmis added two goals and an assist while Samuel Miller, Jack Hyde, and Jack Mulvihill each found the back of the net twice.

Joe Post was 18-for-23 from the faceoff X and scooped up eight ground balls.  Matt Jeffries was credited with six groundballs and a caused turnover while Kyle Rochester nabbed six groundballs of his own.

Darin Eakins, who was named the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week on Monday, moved to 2-0 in goal after allowing 10 goals and making 12 saves.

It was all Clarkson in the early going as the Golden Knights jumped out to a quick 3-2 lead. Down by one with five minutes remaining in the opening quarter, the tides shifted as Ian Evans found Kemmis for a goal before Gallina assisted on a goal from Hyde to stake the Cardinals to a 4-3 edge heading into the second period.

After swapping goals to begin the frame, Fisher afforded itself some breathing room with three straight marks including two from DePetres and one from Post to hold an 8-4 cushion.

As the half wore on, Clarkson would find its footing and answered Fisher's run with one of its own as the Golden Knights bridged the second and third quarters with three unanswered goals to pull to within one, 8-7.

With momentum shifting, Fisher regained control as a goal from Tucker O'Donnell sparked a three-goal burst to close out the third with the home team ahead on the scoreboard, 11-7.

From there, Clarkson would get two goals back to begin the fourth, but the Cardinals' were too much on the offensive end of the field as head coach Dave Dobbins squad rattled off five of the game's final six goals.

The Cardinals will continue play at home at 1 p.m. on Saturday with another tough non-conference test against SUNY Geneseo in Growney Stadium.
