GOLDEN DAYS: The traditional gift for 50 years of marriage is gold and this year marks the golden anniversary of the St. John Fisher College football program.  Founded in 1971 as a club team, Fisher has won nearly 280 games and boasts a winning percentage of nearly .600 in that time.  The College has enjoyed eight seasons with at least 10 wins, six Empire 8 conference title, five NCAA berths, three club national championships and hundreds of All-Conference honorees.

WHEN LAST WE MET: The Cardinals and Hawks last met on October 19, 2019 with Fisher putting up a season-high 49 points in a 49-21 win at Wright Stadium.  Overall, the team racked up 28 first downs and finished with 161 rushing yards and 411 passing yards in the win.  Hunter Walsh was 24-for-34 in the win with 365 yards and three touchdown tosses while TySean Sizer had four grabs for 179 yards and two scores including a 96-yard score.  Dahmir Pross ran for 103 yards on 17 carries to go along with a pair of touchdowns while the defense forced four turnovers and held the Hawks to just 30 rushing yards.

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's pairing will mark the 26th time that Fisher has squared off with Hartwick College on the gridiron. The Cardinals have traditionally owned Hartwick having accumulated 18 wins over 25 historical meetings. Over the last 10 seasons, head coach Paul Vosburgh's teams have gone 9-1 against the Hawks with an average margin of victory of over three touchdowns.

LAST TIME OUT: Despite scoring the most points in a game since week two, Fisher was unable to hold off Alfred University two weeks ago as it fell, 38-35.  In all, the Cardinals accounted for 339 yards including 131 on the ground.  Leading 21-14 in the third quarter, Fisher yielded a 38-yard field goal before Joseph Torrillo threw a pick six that Alfred returned 75 yards to hold a 24-21 edge.  From there, the visitors extended their lead to 10 late in the fourth, but Fisher countered with a punt return for a touchdown to climb to within three.  The Cardinals went for an onside kick, but were unable to come up with the recovery as Alfred ran out the clock.

RETURN POLICY: The Cardinals received a huge boost in the return game against Alfred as TySean Sizer became the first player in team history to return a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown in the same game.  Sizer broke a 14-14 tie to begin the second half after scampering 88 yards on the opening kickoff for a score to mark the team's first kickoff return for a TD since December 3, 2011 against the University of St. Thomas.  The Rochester native was back at it again in the fourth quarter after breaking up the sideline for a 38-yard punt return touchdown - Fisher's first since Sizer did it against TCNJ in 2019.  Look for the senior to potentially have another huge day in the return game as Hartwick enters the weekend allowing over 30 yards per return on the kickoff and over 11 in the punt return game.

SACK RACE: Saturday's matchup may be Fisher's opportunity to cause some chaos in Hartwick's backfield as the Hawks' offensive line has had a lackluster season through its first six games.  In that stretch, Hartwick has allowed 17 sacks, which is the most among all Empire 8 teams.  On the other side of the line, Fisher has only accounted for seven sacks all season, which ranks sixth in the league.

WHAT'S THE RUSH?: The Cardinals' struggles to stop the run this season may take a turn on Saturday as Hartwick ranks last in the conference in rushing at just 64 yards on average.  The Hawks have averaged just over two yards per carry on 177 attempts and have broken the goal line just three times - all of which are among the lowest in the Empire 8.  Fisher on the other hand, has averaged over 115 yards on the ground over its last two games and ranks third in the conference with 10 rushing touchdowns.  Defensively, however, Fisher has allowed over 200 rushing yards to its opponent in each of its last five games.

SCOUTING HARTWICK: The Hawks bring a 1-5 overall record into Saturday's contest after having been blasted by Brockport, 41-14 last weekend.  Overall, Hartwick possesses a potent passing game with Jason Garcia handling the majority of the snaps.  Garcia has accumulated 392 yards over two games, but has thrown three picks in that same stretch.  On the outside, Justice Mansfield-Beaulieu leads the receiving corps with 330 yards on 17 catches while Nate Rath has 17 grabs of his own and 318 yards.  Hartwick won't look to run the ball as much as other teams will, but Davien Kuinlan has still racked up nearly 400 yards on 101 attempts to go along with three touchdowns.

Defensively, Hartwick is paced by Jeremy Gerdvil's 46 stops while Bryan Grimes has 44 tackles on the season and a team-high five pass breakups.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Cardinals will have perhaps their most difficult test of the season next Saturday when they welcome nationally-ranked Cortland to Growney Stadium as the team celebrates the members of its senior class.  Cortland enters this week ranked 16th in the latest D3football.com national poll and is one win away from securing the conference championship.  Fisher owns a 5-7 overall record against the Red Dragons and will square off against former Fisher quarterback Curt Fitzpatrick who moved from Morrisville to Cortland prior to the start of the 2020 season.

THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT: In case you missed it, Fisher Athletics launched its new mobile app last fall - SJFC Athletics - in the App Store and on Google Play.  The app, which gives fans, alumni, parents and more yet another opportunity to stay-up-to-date with the latest news, highlights, schedules and more, is free and features push notifications so you never miss a beat.  Speaking of apps, don't forget to download the Audacy mobile app to listen to each and every football game - just search ESPN ROCHESTER.
