Field Hockey Gathering Steam Behind 4-0 Win at Keuka

Cardinals have now won four in a row

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team ran its winning streak to four games on Wednesday afternoon after posting its second consecutive shutout behind a 4-0 drubbing of Keuka College in an Empire 8 tilt at Jephson CAC.  With the win, the Cardinals improved to 7-5 and remained in first place in the Empire 8 standings at 5-0 while the Wolves fell to 2-7 on the season and 0-4 against league opponents.

Fisher put the Wolves on notice in just the eighth minute when Gianna Palma centered a pass to Alyssa Andres who buried one in the corner to put the visitors ahead, 1-0.

The gap remained at one goal until 46 seconds before halftime when Palma notched her second assist of the afternoon after feeding Molly Fisher for her sixth mark of the year and a 2-0 lead at the break.

Coming out of intermission, Fisher went up by three when Palma smacked a shot from the edge of the arc that Bre Socker deflected past Keuka's keeper for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.  The Cardinals tacked on another goal in the 54th minute as Sam Choate's shot was deflected into the left corner by Fisher for her second tally in the Cardinals' win.

In all, Fisher accounted for 23 shots including 14 on goal.  Bre Socker, who was named the Empire 8's Player of the Week on Monday, accounted for eight shots while Andres matched her with seven shots of her own.  Fisher had six shots off the bench while Palma added one in the win to go along with three helpers.

In goal, Sophia Trozzi collected her second consecutive clean sheet to improve to 7-5. She did not face a shot over 60 minutes of action.

The Cardinals will put their winning streak on the line at 5 p.m. on Saturday against Hartwick College inside Growney Stadium in a pairing that could determine the Empire 8 Regular Season Champion.
