Lynchburg, Va. - The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team started its 2020 campaign off on a high note with a emphatic 20-3 victory at the University of Lynchburg on Thursday at the Hornets' Shellenberger Field.
Senior
Mallory Eymer led the Cardinals, who are ranked 12th in the IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll, with five goals and two assists.
Sydney DeGirolamo had a five-point day with four goals and one assist to go along with eight draw controls.
The Cardinals scored nine-straight goals to start the game. Freshmen
Mackenzie Alexander and
Courtney O'Dea each netted their first career goals during the run.
Coming out of halftime up 9-1, Fisher earned a man-down goal off the stick of Eymer. The Cardinals followed with four more goals in a row to take a 14-1 edge.
After the Hornets scored their first of the second half, Fisher pushed the lead to 17 with five more scores.
Kathleen Salanger hit the back of the net for the final goal of the game.
Alyssa Sabotka posted her first career hat trick while tallying an assist in the game and tying for a game-high two caused turnovers.
Hayley Maguire led all players with four ground balls and also earned two caused turnovers.
Logan Chase filled the stat sheet with two goals, three ground balls, four draw controls and one caused turnover. Salanger ended up with two scores off the bench.
The Cardinals out shot their opponent 38-7 and were 100 percent on their clear attempts. In net,
Claudia Mocciaro played over 50 minutes while making two saves.
Lilly Goodsell came in relief for the final 9:17 and tallied one save.
Fisher continues its spring break trip as it will head down to Raleigh, North Carolina to face Meredith College at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
