TUCSON, AZ. – The St. John Fisher College softball team got itself into the win column on Tuesday following consecutive wins against the University of Mary Washington and Emerson College at Abraham Lincoln Regional Park. With the victories, the Cardinals improved to 2-2 on the season while UMW dropped to 6-4-1 and Emerson began their season 0-1.
FISHER 5, MARY WASHINGTON 3
The Cardinals got going early after plating two runs on three hits in the top of the first.
Emily Trotman led off with a triple to right center and scored when
Maria Marcera ripped an RBI-single to left to make it 1-0. From there,
Abby Flakus reached on a fielder's choice before
Allie Klonowski singled to short to drive in the team's second run of the frame.
After giving a run back in the home half of the first, Fisher would tack on two more runs in the top of third with
Sammie Torlish and
Rachel Evans collecting an RBI each in the process.
Mary Washington would climb to within one after plating a run in the third and fourth innings, but Marcera would give the Cardinals some cushioning after driving in a run with a double to right to make it 5-3 in the Cardinals' favor.
Leading by two runs late in the game, Fisher shut Mary Washington down as the home team was had a runner on in the sixth and seventh, but was unable to string together a big inning.
Emily Trotman moved to 1-1 on the year after the junior threw 4.0 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits.
Jess Patterson earned her first-career save after throwing the final three innings and allowing just two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
At the plate, Marcera was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored while Trotman finished with two hits in four at-bats.

Bari Mance's squad.
FISHER 11, EMERSON 10
After giving up a run in the first inning, the Cardinals were able to score three runs on defensive errors made by the Lions to give Fisher a 3-1 lead. Emerson refused to back down from the two-run gap as they piled on eight runs in the next frame fueled by two three-run homers.
Facing a six-run deficit, the Cardinals chipped away at the Emerson lead behind a Trotman solo home run to left center field in the bottom of the second and an identical homer in the third inning blasted by Kreger for her first-career knock over the outfield fence.
Head Coach Mance looked to her veteran pitcher, Trotman, for relief in the fourth to regain control of the matchup. On offense, Flakus was able to reach on an error to score Klidonas, which trimmed the Emerson lead to four headed into the fifth inning.
Fisher took over in the sixth frame as the Cardinals knocked six consecutive base hits from Flakus, Klonowski, Torlish,
Allison Rogowski, and
Emma Smith with RBI from Klonowski, Rowgowski, Smith, and Klidonas, to tie the game up at 10 runs apiece.
Following scoreless seventh and eighth innings, the Cardinals were once again aided by their leadoff hitter, Trotman, who singled up the middle in the bottom of the ninth to score the runner at second base.
Behind Trotman's 6.0 inning and five strikeout relief performance, Emerson knocked just three hits in the remainder of the contest; her record improved to 2-1 on the season. The junior went 3-for-6 with 2 RBI while Klonowski had three hits in 5 at bats with 2 RBI and Kreger hit .500 with 3 RBI.
The Cardinals will play two more against Emerson College on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 9 a.m. MST (11 a.m. EST).
