MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Despite allowing just 46 points overall, the St. John Fisher College women's basketball team was quiet on the offensive end of the floor on Thursday as the Middlebury College Panthers came out on top, 46-27, in a non-conference tilt inside Pepin Gym. The Cardinals, who are coming off a season-high 92 points in their last outing, fell to 7-3 on the season while Middlebury climbed to 9-1 following the win.
It was close after 10 minutes of play as the Panthers held a one-possession edge, 14-11, however the hosts would hold the Cardinals' high-powered offense to just 16 points over the next three quarters to extend their own winning streak to its last three games.
Ella Eckert led Fisher with eight points to go along with four rebounds and three steals while Vermont native
Harper Mead added six points, three boards, three assists and three steals.
Julia Mertsock contributed four points and pulled down seven rebounds.
As a team, Fisher was held to just 16 percent shooting from the floor, however, on the defensive end of the court, the Cardinals forced Middlebury in to 22 turnovers.
The Cardinals will look to start a new winning streak when they welcome Ithaca College to town at 6 p.m. on Monday in another tough non-conference battle inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court.
