Men's Lacrosse Set To Make NCAA Division III Tournament Debut On Wednesday

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team will make its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday after securing a spot in the 36-team field by winning its first Empire 8 Conference Championship in program history over this past weekend.
 
Fisher will travel to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to take on No. 11 Gettysburg College at 4 p.m., who earned one of the eight at-large bids with a 14-4 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Centennial Conference Championship. Wednesday's matchup will mark the first time these two programs have faced off in their storied histories.

Head Coach Dave Dobbins' team took down No 10 Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in the conference championship game by a score of 13-6 to earn the program its bid to the NCAA Tournament. Goalkeeper Darin Eakins was named the Championship's Most Valuable Player after the junior posted 13 saves in the win over the Ducks, while also making seven saves in the semifinal victory over Hartwick. 
 
Gettysburg College will be making its 26thappearance in the NCAA Division III Championship over the last 30 years. The Bullets have finished as the national runner-up three times, most recently in 2009. 
 
Gettysburg fell to No. 14 Ursinus College in the title game of the Centennial Championship this past Saturday. Over the course of its regular season, the Bullets posted a 7-1 conference mark with five victories over nationally-ranked opponents. The team is led by Head Coach Hank Janczyk who is currently in his 32ndseason on the Bullets' sideline.  
 
The Cardinals finished the regular season with a 14-2 overall record, before defeating Hartwick and Stevens to boost its overall mark to 16-2. The 16 wins thus far ties the programs all-time mark for most wins in a single season dating back to the 2010 season. Nicholas Miller has already broken the program record for goals in a single season with his 75 thus far, while fellow sophomore Joe Post surpassed his own single-season program record with 223 ground balls to date.
