No. 19 Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 7 York College of Pennsylvania In Overtime

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The No. 19 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team fell in overtime to No. 7 York College of Pennsylvania in the first game of its Spring Break trip by a score of 10-9. With the loss, Fisher falls to 1-1 overall, while York improves to 3-1 overall.

The Cardinals outshot the Spartans 19-14 in the game, while Mallory Eymer and Alyssa Sproule led the Cardinal offense with four and three goals respectively throughout the game.

Eymer put Fisher on the scoreboard first in the opening half, able to find the back of the net just over two and half minutes after the open whistle.

From there, York scored the next two goals of the ranked matchup at the 22:02 and 12:27 marks of the first half.

Before the halftime horn sounded, the Cardinal defense stood tall and the offense went to work. The Cardinals entered the break with a 4-2 advantage as Eymer found the back of the net twice before Sydney DeGirolamo scored her second of the season with only 14 seconds remaining before halftime.

To open the second half, York was the first to find the back of the net as the Spartans tallied the first two goals of the second 30-minutes, tying the game back up at 4-4.

However, another three-goal rally from Fisher ensured as Eymer, Sproule, and Logan Chase all scored to put the Cardinals back ahead 7-4.

The second half scoring spree continued as both sides traded goals back-and-forth for the next six minutes of play, with Cardinals clinging to an 8-7 lead.

With 2:40 remaining in regulation, Sproule completed her hat-trick as the Penfield native rocketed a shot to the top right corner of the York goal, putting the Cardinals ahead 9-7.

From there, York took advantage of a draw control and a Fisher turnover to find the back of the net twice in a matter of 50 seconds, sending the game to overtime.

In the first three-minute overtime session, the Spartans won the opening draw control and were able to beat Claudia Mocciaro at the 1:54 mark to take home the victory.

Mary Grace Doyle led the Fisher defense with three caused turnovers, while Chase added four ground balls and game-high six draw controls.

Mocciaro was credited with the loss in net as the sophomore finished with four saves for the Cardinals, moving her record to 1-1 in 2019.

Fisher returns to action on Friday at 10 a.m. when it takes on Kings College in its second and final matchup of Spring Break.
